Somewhereness: Sleigh Ride Pack

Welcome to Somewhereness

What is Somewhereness you ask? For 11 wineries in Ontario, it is described as  "mysterious time capsules we know as bottles of wine".

The Wine

13th Street Winery 2015 13th Street Vineyard Riesling

Our 13th Street Vineyard Riesling is a pure taste of the Somewhereness of our vineyard in Creek Shores. The vineyard has old Riesling vines, planted in the late 1970s and early 1980s on heavy clay and sandy loam, very close to the moderating influence of Lake Ontario. We ferment the wine totally dry, yet it is rich in flavours of citrus fruit with distinct notes of minerality.

Flat Rock Cellars 2014 Reserve Riesling

Flat Rock Cellars is located on the Niagara escarpment in the Twenty Mile Bench appellation, atop deep limestone soil. The Reserve Riesling is made only in select vintages and is a blend of our Nadja’s Vineyard, planted in 2001, and a selection of fruit from our 2004 planting of Riesling. These select parcels were left on the vine for an additional 3 weeks to increase the concentration of the berries and to showcase the citrus side of this bone-dry cool-climate Riesling.

Southbrook 2017 Heather’s Home Vineyard Riesling

Certified Organic Riesling, sourced from Heather Laundry’s home organic vineyard The grapes were skin soaked to unlock their famous aromas, then bladder pressed gently, followed by cold settling.  One part old style, one part new and all parts Somewhereness. This dry style Niagara Riesling was cool fermented in stainless

steel until it was almost dry, leaving just enough residual sugar to balance the fresh, natural acidity.

Cave Spring Cellars 2017 Adams Steps Riesling

The wine is named after a series of limestone outcrops – known as the Adam Steps – that ascend the Niagara Escarpment above our Cave Spring Vineyard. Originating from vines nestled on the hillside of the Beamsville Bench, just below this unique formation, it captures Riesling’s riveting tension between succulent fruit and penetrating acidity, displaying the power and finesse intrinsic to this exceptional terroir. Decanting is recommended. Best enjoyed 2019 through 2025.

Malivoire 2017 Small Lot Gamay

This wine is born from fruit raised in the Estate Vineyard on the Beamsville Bench, where the vines are now just over 15 years old. Harvested by hand and farmed sustainably, the vineyard produces Gamay that exhibits crunchy red fruits and a hint of white pepper consistently, vintage after vintage. Winemaker Shiraz Mottiar uses a combination of de-stemmed fruit and whole clusters during fermentation to ensure that the purity of the vineyard is highlighted. Similarly, new oak is eschewed in favour or neutral wood and stainless steel.

Stratus 2014 Weather Report Red

At Stratus, our vineyard’s voice is defined as much by the soils underfoot, as the shifting weather patterns above. Our Weather Report series is ever-changing – each wine, an individual snapshot of a growing season and the diverse varietals that make up the small blocks of our 55-acre vineyard.  This 2014 Red is a full-bodied and intriguing expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Viognier and Syrah.  Perfectly suited to holiday sipping.

The Experience

As ethereal gifts of a carefully tended location and a moment in time, each is imprinted with a vineyard’s sense of place, its soil, climate, seasons, vintage variations — and its maker’s methods.” Matt Kramer, author and Wine Spectator columnist describes Somewhereness as a “blend of terroir, climate, vine and vintner that lets a wine stand apart.” We are presenting wines from 6 wineries belonging to the Somewhereness group, building extra special packages, especially for you, for the holidays.
