Welcome to Somewhereness
What is Somewhereness you ask? For 11 wineries in Ontario, it is described as "mysterious time capsules we know as bottles of wine".
Flat Rock Cellars 2017 Gewurztraminer
Gewurztraminer typically plays a key role in our signature Twisted blend. In 2017, we decided that the quality of fruit from this single vineyard could stand on its own and shine, giving you a glimpse into its vibrant and unique characteristics. We created a dry and complex wine from this very fine fruit.
Stratus 2017 Wildass White
The principle of assemblage - the practice of assembling multiple grape varieties into one single wine - captures the essence of the vintage and our Estate Vineyard. Wildass White, part of the Stratus family of wines, is a fun and energetic medley of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Viognier. Exotic, tropical, lively and versatile; pairs perfectly with all of your holiday and entertaining plans.
Cave Spring Cellars 2017 Adams Steps Riesling
This wine is named after a series of limestone outcrops – known as the Adam Steps – that ascend the Niagara Escarpment above our Cave Spring Vineyard. Originating from vines nestled on the hillside of the Beamsville Bench, just below this unique formation, it captures Riesling’s riveting tension between succulent fruit and penetrating acidity, displaying the power and finesse intrinsic to this exceptional terroir. Decanting is recommended. Best enjoyed 2019 through 2025.
Southbrook 2016 Triomphe Merlot
Hand harvested from certified organic vineyards across Niagara, the ripe fruit of a warm vintage and subtle oak give the wine a lush, hedonistic quality. Rich in texture and flavour, Southbrook’s Triomphe Merlot will transform on your palate and unfold the story of terroir, climate, vine, vintner, and into the world of “Somewhereness.”
Malivoire 2016 Small Lot Pinot Noir
The grapes for our Small Lot Pinot Noir come from two of the most prized vineyard sites on the Beasmville Bench; the Moira vineyard belonging to Martin Malivoire and the Mottiar vineyard, home of winemaker Shiraz Mottiar. This Pinot Noir speaks to our Bench soils with its bright fruit character and characteristic mineral spine. It is a pinot noir to drink now but will cellar another 3-4 years.
13th Street Winery 2017 Whitty Vineyard Gamay
Our Whitty Vineyard Gamay is a pure taste of the Somewhereness of our vineyard in Creek Shores, a perfectly cool site with sandy loam soils, ideal for one of our favourite varieties. Although a relatively young vineyard, planted in 2008, ‘09 and ’10, the fruit grown here is always full of juicy acidity and a lively fresh red and black fruit character. Fermented traditionally and aged in 100% stainless steel, the wine is designed for early consumption and great enjoyment.
As ethereal gifts of a carefully tended location and a moment in time, each is imprinted with a vineyard’s sense of place, its soil, climate, seasons, vintage variations — and its maker’s methods.” Matt Kramer, author and Wine Spectator columnist describes Somewhereness as a “blend of terroir, climate, vine and vintner that lets a wine stand apart.” We are presenting wines from 6 wineries belonging to the Somewhereness group, building extra special packages, especially for you, for the holidays.
